Are Weight Loss Programs HSA- or FSA-Eligible Expenses?

HSAs (Health Savings Accounts) and healthcare FSAs (Flexible Spending Accounts) are tax-advantaged accounts that can be used to cover qualified healthcare expenses, including certain weight-loss services and products.

Specifically, HSA and FSA funds can cover expenses that relieve or prevent physical or emotional disability or illness. The IRS Publication 502 provides a detailed list of eligible expenses; you can also confirm eligibility with your account administrator.

In some cases, a clinician’s recommendation can make an otherwise ineligible expense HSA- or FSA-eligible. For example, weight loss expenses often qualify if they are recommended for a specific medical condition, such as acid reflux, arthritis, back pain, heart disease, hypertension, obesity, PCOS, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes.

The Calibrate membership fee of $199/month is typically HSA- or FSA-eligible—and you can also use HSA or FSA funds to help pay for any portion of your GLP-1 prescription not covered by insurance.

DON'T MISS OUT: USE YOUR FSA DOLLARS BEFORE THE DEADLINE

December 31 is a common deadline for spending the money in your Flexible Spending Account (FSA)—but not all FSA plans follow this date. If you have a Health Savings Account (HSA), there are no deadlines for reimbursements.

Qualifying individuals can use an FSA or HSA to pay for weight loss through Calibrate and expect the following benefits:
